So I'm graduating school next year, and I'm facing the fact that I'll probably end up commuting to DC for awhile/being in the general DC Area. I'm no stranger to the area - I know that traffic pretty well.

With that said, I don't want to expose my R to that, nor do I want to expose my left ankle to hours of stop and go with a clutch.

So I'm doing some hypothetical car shopping, and I'm pretty fond of the current generation S60. They drive nice, they're built well, not too expensive to insure, and really not that expensive to purchase pre-owned.

For MPG and pricing, I'd probably end up with a T5. The thing is, however, I'd say 80% of the T5's on the market have once belonged to a rental fleet.

While I'd never buy a Cobalt/Aveo/Rio/Impala/Etc for being an ex-rental (amongst many other reasons), I'm not too sure I would be all that picky with higher-end rentals. According to someone I talked to, the higher-end ones usually are maintained pretty well, as they are not rented out 24hrs/365.

Would you consider one?

I don't know if I could ever consider a rental of any kind. I've only had two rentals in my life, but I drove the tits off of them. My dad had a rental A4 one time and he wasn't easy on it at all.

my sister bough a 2014 XC90 Premium package from my dealer that was an ex loaner. It had 3,000 miles. Fully loaded 2014 Volvo XC90 all set and done with full new car warranty and maint. plan...... $31,000. Yup, for the price of a meh Explorer, she got a fully loaded XC90

It's not actually difficult to find a non-rental one. Like, at all. Personally, I would never, ever drive an ex-rental. Forget mechanics, there have been countless people doing countless things too and in those cars.

If you knew what I knew and saw what I saw, you would never buy an ex-rental fleet unit unless the price is well below wholesale.

Higher-end cars are maintained just the same as any other vehicle, and are rented out just as much. "Someone you talked to" is misinformed. And many of these motors require premium gas. Ask yourself if the rental car companies or their customers put in premium gas.

Don't do it. If a non-fleet S60 is out of your range, then I urge you to find another car.

My dad owns a 2012 S60 T5 with Premium and Climate package. He got his brand new. Let me just say, DO IT PLEASE! Its an AMAZING car! Everything in it just feels perfect!

I know that down by me, Budget rents out like three of these, but they are in a premium package and not given out unless specifically reserved.

One thing I would really look into though: Certified Pre owned! In case you were not aware, buying a CPO includes a FREE 7 YEAR 100,000 MILE WARRANTY! The prices now for fully loaded T5s with about 30,000 miles is like 22,000.
